With a ban in place on the use of Mk. 1 carriages without Central Door Locking (CDL), tours operated on behalf of the Railway Touring Company are, for the time being, using CDL-fitted Mk.2 air-braked carriages. However, air braking does limit the steam locomotive options, so SR ‘Battle of Britain’ No. 34067 Tangmere was used for a ‘Winter Cumbrian Mountain’ express on February 10, seen passing Grayrigg on the way from Manchester Piccadilly to Carlisle. Class 57 No. 57315 was on the rear.
