APM suppliers shortlisted
TWO bidders will be invited to tender to deliver, operate and maintain the automated people mover (APM) system, which will provide a link between HS2’s Interchange station (north east of Solihull), the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham International station and Birmingham Airport.
The UK subsidiary of Doppelmayr Cable Car (whose ‘Cable Liner’ technology is already used in Birmingham Airport’s ‘Air-Rail Link’ and Luton Airport’s DART transit systems) and POMA (whose recent work includes the Les Arcs Funicular Railway in France) have been shortlisted. The winning company will be awarded contracts covering the design, supply, testing and commissioning of the system and its operation (including asset management and maintenance) for a 25- year period. The total value of the contracts is expected to be up to £269 million. Tenders for the infrastructure are expected to be invited next year.
