SKEGNESS is always a popular destination for a rail excursion, and on June 22, UK Railtours (UKR) will be taking an HST back to the resort, along a route that is still semaphore signalled and has several manually operated level crossings.
Using rolling stock from the 125 Group and power cars from RailAdventure, the‘Jolly Fisherman 125 Special’will take the Midland Main Line route from London St Pancras (08.00), picking up at Luton Airport Parkway, Kettering and Leicester before heading via Nottingham and Sleaford to Skegness.
UKR’s association with HST125 tours goes back to the days of its predecessor Hertfordshire Railtours with a first special in January 1988, then running 196 HST tours until its final tour in September 2017 –or that’s what was thought. Repurposing of power cars and the preservation of HST trailers in main line condition has made further trains possible.
