Beginners: Give your book a chance!

I quite often meet writers who have finished a book, yet don’t know where to send it… or simply don’t have the courage to send it out there in case they receive criticism in return.
Both problems are easily solved. Dealing with the first point is one of information: you’ve gone to an enormous amount of trouble writing your novel, so why fall at the first fence by not doing a bit of research and finding out where you might send it?
Here’s how. I entered ‘List of literary agents UK’ on Google and got back pages of listings for agents, some directories, some individual companies – but all leading to a potential fund of information about the kind of submissions they’re seeking, whether by mail or online.
