The Hove deckchairs
It was telling that when the Brighton paper, The Argus, announced an £8m redevelopment of Hove, home of Sussex County Cricket Club, in 2009, they immediately reassured their readers: “Enjoying cricket from the comfort of a deckchair will remain a pleasure.”
When you watch a game at the ground, half a mile from the seafront, reclining in comfort, breathing in the sea air, listening to the seagulls squawking as they circle above, it is a comforting thought… that the deckchairs are there, have always been there, and hopefully always will be (even if their number is scaled back for popular T20 matches).
