Japan’s Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) has ordered four 174,000m3 capacity LNG carriers from South Korea’s HD Hyundai Heavy Industries at a cost of $260 million each. They will be powered by twin MAN Energy Solutions 5G70ME-GA Mk.10.5 main engines equipped with Exhaust Gas Recirculation By-Pass (EGRBP) technology.
The 289.9m by 46.1m ships will be able to use ‘boil-off’ gas from their membrane-type cargo tanks as fuel to power their dual-fuel two-stroke main engines. Upon sequential delivery starting in 2027, they will be chartered to EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg, a major German energy company.
