The Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) of Singapore reported a 9.4 per cent increase in the tonnage of vessels calling at the port over 2022, reaching a record high of 3.09 billion gross tonnes. Cargohandling at the port was also up against 2022, as the container terminals saw a 4.6 per cent rise, achieving 39 million TEU.
Tuas, which will eventually house the entire container operations of the port, saw its first eight berths open, as part of the Phase 1 of the terminal’s development. In the anchorages off the port, bunker sales topped 51.8 million tonnes during the year, a new record, beating the 50.6 million of 2017.
