ISLANDS TICKETING Scottish inter-island operator Orkney Ferries, owned by the Islands Council, is replacing their current ticketing and reservation procedures with a new one from Hogia Ferry Systems. Orkney Ferries offer a wide selection of inter-island and mainland connections with a ten-vessel fleet which introduced ro-ro workings in 1990 when 771gt sisters Earl Sigurd and Earl Thorfinn came into service.
CANARIES ARRIVAL The joint service operated by Balearia and Fred. Olsen Express from Huelva to the Canary Islands has seen the introduction of an additional vessel, with the Cyprus-flagged Sicilia (2002/24/409gt) joining the 20,678gt Marie Curie, which was delivered from Visentini in 2002 and now shares a schedule of three return trips each week.
DOOLIN FERRIES The Irish West Coast operator to the Aran Islands is building a 300-passenger vessel which will serve all three islands, Inisheer, Inishmaan and Inishmore, from the mainland at Doolin. Her capacity will be three times that of existing ferries Star of Doolin, Doolin Express and Doolin Discovery.
