NETWORK Rail has announced three more stations which will receive accessibility upgrades under the Department for Transport’s‘Access for All’scheme.
On January 29, work started at Leatherhead on a £6.2 million project to install two new eight-person capacity lifts and anew footbridge. Other improvements include refreshing the lighting, adding CCTV and minor alterations to the existing ramp and installing new handrails. This project is due for completion by spring 2025.
At Beeston, near Nottingham, two new lifts are being installed and as part of the work, the existing platform 1 staircase will be removed and replaced with a new set of stairs which will be incorporated into the Meadow Road flyover above the station. These upgrades are scheduled to be completed by autumn 2024.
