NETWORK Rail has taken another significant step forward in rebuilding the Grade Bstation building on platform one at Troon station, which along with the canopies was destroyed by a fire in July 2021.
Engineers have installed the steel girders which form the framework of the structure and creates the footprint for the new building. The framework has 127 pieces of prefabricated steel, and weighs approximately nine tonnes in total. As part of the next phase engineers will pour the concrete slab that will become the floor of the building.
Following a public consultation, the new building is being rebuilt to modern standards and will include a ticket office and waiting area, as well as a‘changing places’facility for people with disabilities. Lead-contractor AMCOGiffen, is working towards completing the construction ahead of The Open golf tournament which is being held in Troon in July.
