What is it?
One of many small diesel-powered shunting locomotives built for British Railways during the Modernisation Plan era, the Class 06 began life as a 45-strong fleet of 204hp 0-4-0s. Built by Andrew Barclay of Kilmarnock between 1956-1960, D2400-D2444 were allocated to BR’s Scottish Region from new. Apart from a single example, the class would remain north of the border for their entire careers.
