Backscene
Chris Leigh offers meanderings we couldn’t fit into the issue elsewhere, but which seemed terribly important at the time…
More on layout disposals
I’ve been helping a lady in the village where I live to dispose of her late husband’s model railway. It is not the first time that I’ve given such assistance but previous occasions have been on behalf of the widows of friends. In this instance, though I knew the modeller by sight, and he knew me, I was not even aware that he had a layout.
My involvement, to date, has been to test locomotives to ensure that they are in working order and to put together boxes of assorted models for the widow to take for valuation and sale. Interestingly, he was one of the ‘James May school’ of collectors, who discarded the boxes, because they took up too much space in a comparatively small layout room.
