Laurence Malice is clubland royalty. In 1990, the nightlife promoter masterminded Trade, a riotous queer-leaning party at London’s first 24-hour club, Turnmills. It was a refreshing antidote to conservative, buttoned-up clubbing in the capital, with its flawless sound system, hard house beats, and anything-goes energy. Laurence’s spirit meant that no one was given special treatment: even Cher was turned away because of her diva demands for a VIP area. This May, Laurence’s spiritual sequel to Trade, Egg LDN, celebrates 15 years of keeping London’s clubbers moving till the early hours. Here, he reflects on wisdom learned from a life spent on dancefloors.
