Streamliners 2016
Over the NSW October Long Weekend (Saturday 1st to Monday 3rd), thanks to the herculean efforts and many years of planning by well-known locomotive driver Bernie Baker, 20 classic and historic locomotives were brought together at the Goulburn Rail Heritage Centre under the ‘Streamliners 2016’ banner. All drawn from the famous ‘car body’ design, the 20 locomotives represented both the Clyde/EMD ‘F nose’ design and the Goodwin/ALCo ‘World Series’ DL500B model. Chris Walters was there.

Nineties revolution now remembered – 20 years of the NR Class
November 2016 marks the passing of 20 years since the introduction to service of the NR Class locomotive. Arguably one of the most successful locomotive types to ever be introduced in Australia, the NR Class units were the first ‘national’ locomotive and a harbinger of a standard gauge trans-continental railway network that could not have been imagined by the founding fathers of the various Australian railway systems. Ken Date and Dominik Giemza present a special tribute to this reliable and dependable workhorse.

Redcliffe Peninsula Line opens for customers
The idea of providing a railway to Redcliffe was first mooted in the late 1800s when the local council proposed linking the town by rail to Brisbane, with a deputation to the Government In 1885 requesting a survey for a railway. 131 years later, on Monday 3 October 2016, the much-anticipated and delayed official opening of the Redcliffe Peninsula Line (known as the Moreton Bay Rail Link during its construction phase) finally took place at the line’s terminus, Kippa-Ring Station. John Hoyle takes a look at the new railway, and at the long history that shaped it.
