Enfield to Port Waratah – Part 2
In our March issue, David Shield described driving SSR 3476N, the SSR Green train, from Enfield Yard in Sydney, to Gosford, on the NSW Central Coast. We pick up the story as the train heads north from Gosford, towards its ultimate destination, Port Waratah.

A visit to the Moura line, January 2023
Central Queensland’s “heavy haul” Moura Line utilises diesel power, so the system doesn’t have the intrusive infrastructure associated with electrified lines, making it very “photography friendly”. Additionally, it has the benefit of running through some picturesque countryside to the west of the port town of Gladstone, and Steve Munro has enjoyed visiting and photographing the line several times over the years.

Perhaps Sunday is not such a Day of Rest
As David Campbell reports, Southern Shorthaul Railroad was rather busy across the Victorian broad-gauge network on Sunday 12 February. Recent locomotive acquisitions have allowed its Victorian operations to be significantly increased, particularly with locos P11, 14, 16, 17 and 18 (surplus ex-V/Line), and B76 and 80 (ex-Rail First Asset Management) joining the fleet.

The Australian Urban Passenger Train – An unrecognised success?
With orders placed for the next generation of Brisbane suburban trains, the last of the first generation “EMU” sets will be withdrawn as the new trains arrive. As Peter Clark explains, it is worth looking into the origin of the design of these trains, which influenced developments in other states as well.
