Drama and Theatre | Spring 1 20/21
In Drama & Theatre Spring 1, we meet an inspiring young Black creative: malakai sargeant of Theatre Peckham talks to D&T’s Harriet Clifford about their Young, Gifted and Black season. We look at how theatre companies have been adapting to the new digital normal, with features on Big Telly, the Paper Birds and Sleeping Trees; and we also learn how annual youth theatre festivals have fared this year – checking in on the National Theatre Connections festival and on the Shakespeare Schools’ Festival.
The pandemic has had an inevitable impact on young people pursuing apprenticeships, so we check in on those this issue, but in more positive news, there are a number of new Higher Education courses for drama students in various disciplines which have launched in spite of everything – so we take a closer a look at three of these. Finally, reviews run to seven pages, in a special bumper-crop of reports on resources, streamed performances, workshops, books and play texts.
