William Rowan and his Steam Railcars
Imagine for a moment that it is late 1879, and that you have just arrived in the little South Australian seaside town of Glenelg, near Adelaide. The railway is the Glenelg and South Coast Tramway, and what you have just seen is a Rowan steam railcar, the first of five such railcars to arrive in the Australian colonies between 1879 and 1885. It was in the 1870s that William developed his designs for steam railcars, envisaging them as being suitable for use on both rural light railways and urban street tramways.

Bundanoon on the Great Southern Railway – Part 2
The second part of Jim Longworth writes a comprehensive history about Bundanoon, located on the Main South Line.

The Eddy Avenue Underbridge
Reinforced concrete as a building material is so common in the Twenty First Century that it is hard to imagine that there was a time when it was not so widely used. The three bridges were designed to look like a set, though Eddy Avenue, structurally, is nothing like the other two.

Highly recommended Ozzie Railway History Mag

Anyone interested in Australian Railway history, this is a well produced, and high quality mag. My great grandfather helped built many of these railways in late 19C. Beoordeeld op 22 november 2018
