The turtle dove is a prime example of a wild bird in retreat which needs the support of aviculture to ensure its survival. It’s also a magical species with an enchanting voice which distils the spirit of summer. Yet it isn’t a well-known bird, so this week’s in-depth profile is timely. On the theme of safeguarding species, we also hear an update from expert breeders around the country who are specialising closely in groups of exotic softbill species… not a bad hobby to have! Budgies feature big-time, too, with some topical show-prep reminders and a thought-provoking piece on tactics for buying and selling stock.
