January 5 and 15, 2024, will enter the history books of lowcost airline Transavia. Five days into the year, Transavia (IATA: HV) operated its first Airbus A321neo service from Amsterdam/ Schiphol to Pisa. Ten days later, sister airline Transavia France (IATA: TO) launched A320neo services from Paris/ Orly to Porto. Not since 2014, when TO operated four leased A320ceos, have narrowbody Airbus aircraft been flown in a full Transavia livery.
The two airlines had just a single Airbus each in early January, but this will grow to six for HV by the end of the summer and likely a few more before the end of the year. Meanwhile, TO expects to have 13 A320neos by the end of the year. The airframes are part of a February 2022 order that parent company, Air France-KLM, placed for 100 A320neo family aircraft plus 60 options for the two Transavias and KLM. The CFM International LEAP-1A powerplant was selected in April 2022 and confirmed three months later.
