The Sunday Times EFG Short Story Award 2017 is open for entries. It is the world’s richest prize for a single short story, with a first prize of £30,000. Five shortlisted authors will each win £1,000. The Award is now administered by The Society of Authors.
The competition is for original short stories for an adult readership up to 6,000 words, either unpublished or only published after 31 December 2015. To be eligible to enter, writers must have a record of prior publication in creative writing (prose fiction, drama or poetry published by an established publisher or established print magazine, or broadcast by a national radio station) in the UK or Ireland. Self-published work, vanity publishing, work produced by a POD service, online publication, creative writing pending publication, broadcast TV or film, work published in a newspaper, translations, feature writing and music lyrics do not count as a ‘record of prior publication’ for the purposes of this competition.
