Are You Ready for an All-Electric RV?
In the past year alone, Ford, GM, even Volkswagen have launched an all-electric vehicle (EV), offering some impressive options in the SUV and truck markets. Following this trend for 2022, but in the RV space, is Thor and Winnebago that recently introduced new concept electric models at the Florida RV SuperShow in Tampa.
At the time of press, there was no mention of when Winnebago’s new ERV Class B and Thor’s Air Stream eStream trailer and Thor Vision Vehicle (TVV) Class B motorhome will be in production but the tech so far is impressive.
The Winnebago e-RV has a 45-minute charging time and 200 km (125 mi) of range; the TTV can run a distance of up to 483 km (300 mi) on a full charge and its eStream trailer is designed to “reduce loss of range for electric tow vehicles and improve gas mileage for traditional tow vehicles.”
RV resorts, too, are planning to add charging stations (or have already) to their facility. Pathfinder Ventures, which owns three RV resorts in BC, just announced their support of electric RVs and will integrate charging stations and required electrical infrastructure at each of its parks. We expect other campgrounds to follow suit in the future as well.
Embrace this new tech or dismiss it. There is no doubt that technology introduced in the last number of years has provided RVers with a variety of benefits and conveniences. The launch of an all-electric unit - be it a motorhome or trailer - is just one other effort from manufacturers to provide more efficient time on the road.
