Overlander 4X4  |  Sep-19
he September issue of 4x4 celebrates the old and the new alike. We’ve had our first drive in the eagerly awaited Ford Ranger Raptor, Jeep Compass Trailhawk and Isuzu D-Max Workman+, and to complete a hat-trick of double-cabs this issue also contains a full road test of the range-topping Volkswagen Amarok Aventura.
Going back to the old days, we’ve turned up a Suzuki Samurai which, thanks to the ingenuity of its owner, is still going as strong as ever as a cheap and cheerful off-road plaything. And on the subject of rarities, you probably know that Land Rover used to put V8s in the Defender – but the version with a 2.8-litre six-pot BMW petrol engine is a lot less well known.
As for the Jeep Scrambler, that’s a classic name from back in the day – which has been brought back for a retro-styled take on the forthcoming Gladiator.
Talking of classic off-road tales, few global destinations are as iconic as the Salar de Uyuni, and this issue contains a travel story from the wonderful wilds of Peru and Bolivia that will make you want to jack it all in and head for the horizon. But if that’s not very practical, never fear – our summertime roadbook in the heart of England is a scenic and (mainly) gentle day out that will make you glad you drive a 4x4.
