What Motorhome magazine February 2023 - Electric Campers Edição anterior

This month, the invitation came to drive Volkswagen’s new electric van, the ID Buzz. Surely, this is the most exciting development in light commercial vehicles in decades? Whether you’re in favour of the switch to electric or not, this is not the usual boxy panel van that looks as stylish as the container for your Weetabix. Check out the video.
Electric vans, up until now, have looked the same as their diesel equivalents, just with batteries adding weight and cost, while reducing payload and range. Fine for city centre parcel deliveries, but not so good for leisure purposes. Maybe, just maybe, something like the Canoo or Xbus (see page 24) will be the answer; a start-up providing fresh thinking – and bold new design.
In the meantime, if you’re contemplating the switch to EV campervanning, our guide shows you what’s available and also what is potentially coming. We review Wheelhome's award-winning electric camper too, which is packed with innovation. But, if you’re still wedded to diesel (and we don’t blame you, for now at least), we’ve got reviews of some of the latest conventional models in this issue, too, as well as some secondhand bargains...
