Model Engineer  |  No. 215 Vol. 4520
"Tony Wright takes a leaf out of the books by the famous M. E. writer, Tubal Cain as he describes a little compound oscillating engine together with a very simple-to-make boiler. Tony’s illustrated description is easy to follow and makes for an ideal beginner’s project.
Alan Crossfield is approaching the end of his series on the making of a much acclaimed 5 inch gauge locomotive - the locomotive, don’t forget, that accumulated the highest ever marks in the Model Engineer Exhibition’s ‘Duke of Edinburgh Challenge Trophy’ - and here he describes the painting process that probably went a good way towards achieving that accreditation.
Ashley Best describes making the windows of his diorama buildings and producing realistic looking brickwork. Something of interest to model railway builders also, perhaps?
Forncett St. Mary in Norfolk is the home to a fine collection of stationary steam engines and October sees the annual Model Engineers’ Day. David Owen reports on a fine turn out of models enjoying some glorious autumn sunshine.
In the workshop - we have an article that won’t be of interest to anyone (!) as Peter King reviews several methods of extracting broken taps … or maybe it will.
After a short break Chris Gunn returns to complete the machining of the cylinder casting of his Garrett 4CD."
