Living Blues #284 features bluesman Albert White who is among the last of the great Atlanta blues artists. His 60-plus-year career, which he kicked off as a member of one of the city’s most popular 1960s blues bands, Dr. Feelgood and the Interns, has made White a local legend. Robbin Kapsalis and Vintage #18 have established themselves as one of the top rising blues bands in the eastern United States. The Chicago-born singer fronts the band with flash and flare, belting out classic blues and soul. Mississippi-born bluesman Bill Magee cut his teeth in the New York music scene with a young Jimmy James, later known as Jimi Hendrix. Day jobs and family eventually brought the guitarist to California, where he has been a mainstay on the San Diego blues scene for more than 35 years. This issue’s Let It Roll focusses on the August 1930 sessions of Charley Patton, Son House, Willie Brown, and Louise Johnson for Paramount Records are some of the most revered in blues history. They comprise the third session for Patton, the first for House, and the only commercial sides for Brown and Johnson. The love triangle between Patton, House, and Johnson only adds to the remarkable story.
All of this plus the latest in Blues News, Breaking Out with Louisiana Al, LB Talks To John Primer, the 2023 Living Blues Festival Guide, plus over 45 record reviews.
