SUMMER SPRUCE UP
If all your preparation and hard work in spring has gone to plan, your garden should now be a gorgeous summer spectacle of colour and a delight to enjoy. But, sometimes, something happens to put a big spanner in the works and this year, more than many others, that spanner has been the not so great British weather. Until the scorching week we’ve had last week, we’ve generally had cold days and even colder nights. We measured a chilly 4.5C (40F) overnight in the last week of June! There’s been little sunlight and more rain than even a ‘typical’ summer usually throws at us, and all these things
have affected our plants.
