Drama and Theatre  |  Spring 1 22/23
In the Spring 1 issue of Drama & Theatre, we celebrate the organisations, artists and companies pushing for radical progression and inclusion. With the return of the Globe’s Shakespeare and Race Festival, we’re asking how we should approach the subject of racial difference in Shakespeare’s texts in the classroom. We also head to the Barbican to meet the creative team behind the hit new adaptation of Studio Ghibli’s film My Neighbour Totoro, which is bringing much-needed East Asian representation to young audiences. Plus, we meet Maria Oshodi, the pioneering founder of Extant Theatre Company, a collective of blind and visually impaired artists.
Also this issue, we meet the great former ballet dancer Cynthia Harvey to discuss how to introduce dance into your performing arts curriculum. Our practitioner focus looks at the techniques and approach of Frantic Assembly’s artistic director Scott Graham – and how you can add it into your classroom teaching.
As usual, we’re also bringing you our usual round-up of the latest news and reviews from the world of theatre education, as well as a calendar of upcoming workshops and productions.
