The Volvo 850 T-5R proved that it’s hip to be square. It was one of the most improbable performance weapons of the 1990s, built by a manufacturer known for producing safe, dependable and practical cars. A bit of an oddball, slightly left-field and brilliantly bonkers – it was an obvious candidate for the cover of Klassisk.Retrospektiv.Nymodig. Read Richard Heseltine’s words in the latest issue.

From Swede dreams to many people’s idea of a nightmare, Gavin asks if the Nissan Qashqai is a classic. Spoiler alert: it’s not, but our man reckons it will be a future star of the Festival of the Unexceptional. Mind you, he also admits to loving the Mitsubishi Carisma, so you shouldn’t believe a word he says.

Elsewhere, the charismatic Rolls-Royce Camargue is the subject of this month’s Reader Resto, while the Ultimate Guide tells you everything you need to know about buying a Jaguar XK8. That’s assuming you don’t want a Qashqai.

There’s more, because we celebrate 40 years of the Citroën BX, a reader tells us about his Italian adventure in a Fiat Panda, while our resident film critic, Merc Carmode, casts his eye over an overlooked cinematic gem. It’s 100% Carmode with no mayo.

We’re delighted to announce the arrival of Ben Hooper as our newest correspondent. Ben will be explaining what’s it’s like to be a young retro car fanatic in an era of PCP deals, touchscreens and hashtags. He owns a Volvo 480 and an Audi 80 Sport, so we think he’ll feel at home in our mag. Please give him a warm welcome on Twitter @BenHooperHants.

There’s plenty more, including six of the most OTT cars of the 1970s, Triumph TRs in motor sport and the TXR Tracer. A whopping 148 pages of classic, retro and modern escapism.

Classic.Retro.Modern. is the start of something special. A new monthly magazine focusing on established, emerging and modern classics. The cars of the 1960s, ’70s, ’80s, ’90s and ’00s might be familiar, but the stories we tell will be anything but. Classic.Retro.Modern. isn’t here to fit in.

Every month, our readers can expect superb writing, great photography, quality print, excellent design, and an ability to think differently. The cars will be accessible, attainable, and relevant. Our mix will be eclectic. Discover the joys of owning a Reliant Regal before turning over to read about why you should be considering a Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk 5. The Jaguar E-Type rubbing shoulders with the Vauxhall Calibra. The Mini 1275 GT sharing space with the Fiat Panda Mk1.

Classic.Retro.Modern. is fresh enough to appeal to young drivers taking their first tentative steps in the world of classic cars. Established to appeal to knowledgeable enthusiasts who have seen (and read) it all. The magazine will be as at home on a coffee table as it is at a local ‘cars and coffee’ event.

On-sale monthly, it’s packed with classic cars. Regulars such as buying guides, reader restorations and news will be accompanied by drive stories and features designed to excite, inform, and enthuse. Classic.Retro.Modern. will be printed on high-quality paper and filled with great photography and superb design.

The team has a long and successful track record, consisting of Ian Robertson as Publisher, Richard Dredge in as Editor and Gavin Braithwaite-Smith taking the role of Deputy Editor, alongside other well-respected contributors. And that’s all backed up by a group of incredibly talented classic car nuts that look after the design, website and behind the scenes, it’s very much a case that we’ve assembled our dream team.

It's a work of art

Look forward to every issue. It's beautiful, finely crafted and I love the old adverts in between. I can't wait until every issue arrives. Revisto 29 abril 2022
