The Smiths were the Marmite band to end all Marmite bands. Millions of 80s kids loved and loathed their songs in pretty much equal measure – outside bass world, at least. In our community, you’ll be hard pressed to find anyone who isn’t consistently impressed by Andy Rourke’s amazing, tasteful bass parts. A master of the walking line and the subtle fill, and blessed with a phenomenal tone that cut through layers of guitars with ease, Rourke led the way for many of us. And now he’s back after some years of relatively low-key activity, laying down the lines in a new band, D.A.R.K., also featuring Dolores O’Riordan of the Cranberries. It’s a genuine scoop for us to feature Rourke on our cover: we couldn’t be more delighted.
The same goes for the rest of this star-packed issue of BGM. Jah Wobble, Billy Sheehan, Cass Lewis, Esperanza Spalding... the big names just keep coming, and that’s before we get to the lesser-known (but equally astounding) bass playing of Sharlee D’Angelo and Christian Galvez (can you imagine Stanley Clarke asking you to join his band... on bass?). Then there’s our world-class review and tuition sections, stuffed with useful info for anyone who wants to make the low frequencies their home. Enjoy!
One last thing. It’s early days, of course, but make sure you book a visit to the London Bass Guitar Show 2017 into your diary. It’s on 4 and 5 March at London’s Olympia venue – and once again, it’s going to be the highlight of our year. See you next month!

Really interesting

Lots of interesting articles Revisto 25 abril 2022

Bass Player UK

I'm writing from Colombia. I really enjoy the magazine. Thanks guys. Revisto 20 dezembro 2020

Always a good read

Really entertaining view of guitar Revisto 11 julho 2019

Preferred the old reader

Although the new version has a few extra goodies like a side menu with all articles and a nicer layout, the zoom isn't as good as the old reader. With my phone horizontal the maximum zoom still has tiny lettering. It would be no good to someone who is short sighted. Revisto 24 novembro 2012
