OUTBACK Magazine  |  OUTBACK 120
For tens of thousands of years, life in the bush, and the country itself, has inspired songs and music across all genres. The music of the bush is wildly eclectic and, like an ancient river red gum, it has twisted roots and intertwining branches, but at its core it suckles from the sun-kissed Aussie soil itself. So writes Ken Eastwood in his beautifully drawn-together feature on the music of the Australian bush – a main feature of OUTBACK’s August–September issue. It is a story of country music, Aboriginal music, rock music – how music brings us together and changes us. Australian music at its core is different to music from elsewhere, with story-telling front and centre, often using humour and satire.
Along with our perennial favourites of Dogs, Boots, Bush kids, Bush weddings and more, other highlights of the edition include brumby chasers in the Red Centre; camping on the Kimberley coast; and Cowarie station on the Birdsville Track, flourishing after recent rains.
