Dean Meeson’s Lotus Esprit has caused quite a stir on the modified car scene this year. With an engineered air-ride setup and a set of carefully selected and spaced split-rims (amongst other changes), Dean has built a car many people wouldn’t have the bottle to tackle. Classic Lotus cars aren’t exactly known for their reliability after all! Without doubt though Dean’s motor is one of the stand out cars of the year so far, read its story in full exclusively in Retro Cars…
Challenging Dean’s preferred route of air-ride suspension, Stewart Rockliffe’s Mk1 VW Passat saloon uses a hydraulic suspension setup – like a true American lowrider. The car has been modified in period style, with an interior to die for and smooth, simplistic bodywork too boot. The end result is as dramatic as it’s possible to get with an old Veedub. In comparison to the aforementioned Lotus, it neatly showcases another route for adjustable suspension fans.
Elsewhere in this issue you’ll find classic restoration and race preparation specialist CCK Historic with its eye-popping Nash Metropolitan. The car was built for the recent Goodwood Revival, and despite having no competition heritage the project has emerged looking every inch the period racer.
A Toyota Celica Supra, Mk3 Ford Escort and Capri, coverage of the Retro Cars Track Evening and Retro Rides Gathering at Prescott Hill also feature, alongside yet another Lock Up-based car collection to envy.
