Goodness, is that the ’time? We’ve rewound the clock a couple of decades to celebrate the abstract brilliance of the Renault Avantime. Well, we couldn’t stick just any old car on the cover, having starved you of Classic.Retro.Modern. action for an extra month. Yep, we’re bi-monthly now, but better that than to disappear altogether, which has been the fate of some well-established titles.

A couple of readers have complained about the lack of classics from the 1960s and 1970s, and although we’ve got a modern classic on the cover, you’ll find some much older metal on the inside. Skorj charts the history of the Isuzu 117 Coupé, Sam Glover pens a love letter to the Chevrolet Corvair, while Ian Tisdale drives his Honda 1300 Coupe. Yes, it’s Coupe and not Coupé – find out why in the mag.

Elsewhere, Darren Walker meets a Chevelle SS, a car he describes as “Chevrolet’s accidental muscle car”, Richard Dredge celebrates MG at 100, Caesar Barton names six of the best transaxle Porsches, and Terry Luck tells us what it’s like to live with a Vauxhall Monaro.

Having read his piece on the Lancia Y, we suspect Gavin Braithwaite-Smith is edging closer to buying the avant-garde small car, although he needs to finish the restoration of his Citroën AX GT before welcoming another new car to the Auto Barn. Speaking of the AX GT, Citroën’s featherlight hot hatch is the subject of this issue’s reader restoration.

All this and so much more, including the Ultimate Guide to tax-exempt classics, a market insight on the Volvo Amazon, Rich Duisberg’s Fiat Panda 100HP and… well, you’ll have to buy a copy of the mag, which is in stores today.

It’s a long weekend, so you can’t say you Avantime to read it. Thanks for sticking with us.

Classic.Retro.Modern. is the start of something special. A new monthly magazine focusing on established, emerging and modern classics. The cars of the 1960s, ’70s, ’80s, ’90s and ’00s might be familiar, but the stories we tell will be anything but. Classic.Retro.Modern. isn’t here to fit in.

Every month, our readers can expect superb writing, great photography, quality print, excellent design, and an ability to think differently. The cars will be accessible, attainable, and relevant. Our mix will be eclectic. Discover the joys of owning a Reliant Regal before turning over to read about why you should be considering a Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk 5. The Jaguar E-Type rubbing shoulders with the Vauxhall Calibra. The Mini 1275 GT sharing space with the Fiat Panda Mk1.

Classic.Retro.Modern. is fresh enough to appeal to young drivers taking their first tentative steps in the world of classic cars. Established to appeal to knowledgeable enthusiasts who have seen (and read) it all. The magazine will be as at home on a coffee table as it is at a local ‘cars and coffee’ event.

On-sale monthly, it’s packed with classic cars. Regulars such as buying guides, reader restorations and news will be accompanied by drive stories and features designed to excite, inform, and enthuse. Classic.Retro.Modern. will be printed on high-quality paper and filled with great photography and superb design.

The team has a long and successful track record, consisting of Ian Robertson as Publisher, Richard Dredge in as Editor and Gavin Braithwaite-Smith taking the role of Deputy Editor, alongside other well-respected contributors. And that’s all backed up by a group of incredibly talented classic car nuts that look after the design, website and behind the scenes, it’s very much a case that we’ve assembled our dream team.

It's a work of art

Look forward to every issue. It's beautiful, finely crafted and I love the old adverts in between. I can't wait until every issue arrives. Beoordeeld op 29 april 2022
