American Miniaturist  |  Issue 245
For the past few years I have been reflecting on why I am so drawn to the idea of making miniature homes. Before I sold my family home,
I thought it was because I wanted a new start and it was fun to imagine living in many different structures.
After recently having moved to a beautiful new home, I still have the desire to build miniature homes. The common thread in all of my builds has been a safe place full of love and peace. That’s what it’s all about for me; I love to create this in small details, like making the windowsill wide enough for the family cat to sleep in the sun. Or placing a coat hook over a warm radiator, and adding a cozy chair for a nice sit-and-think.
The comforts of home are so important. I have not yet been able to get there in my new home because there is still much unpacking to get done, but it will happen in time. Meanwhile, to avoid exhaustion from unpacking full scale boxes, I am putting my dollhouses back together and staging one room at a time to make it feel like home. I will say being able to sit and work on American Miniaturist is also helping me pace myself. I am the type that loves having things in order, so I have a tendency to do too much to get there.
I hope you can find some fun tutorials in this issue of AM to help make your dollhouse or room box feel more like a loving miniature home!
