McLAREN FEELS THE STRAIN
Honda Formula 1 bosses remain adamant that they are one hundred per cent committed to their partnership with McLaren, despite the British team being linked with a return to Mercedes engines. Relations between the partnership have become increasingly strained since the turn of the year, with Honda’s new-generation power unit yet to show any improvement either in terms of performance or reliability. McLaren has begun evaluating its options, with a return to Mercedes engines understood to be on the table alongside persevering with Honda. A McLaren spokesperson refused to comment on any talks with Mercedes, but Honda’s Yusuke Hasegawa said: “The situation is not what we hoped for, but we believe in this partnership, as does McLaren.”
