Opera Now  |  Spring 24
The Spring 2024 issue of Opera Now features the renowned American tenor Russell Thomas as he takes on his first Parsifal at Houston Grand Opera. He also discusses his ongoing residency at the LA Opera and the development of an autobiographical work written for him, exploring race, sexual trauma, relationships and motherhood.
Elsewhere, we join Scottish Opera on their Highlights Tour – travelling to the Highlands with a quartet of singers from Scottish Opera, who are committed to bringing the joy of opera to rural communities. Singer Kate Valentine explores her journey from promising young artist to developing a severe voice disorder, then retraining and building up to opening her Lewes-based clinic. We preview the world premiere of Jewess of Toledo by Detlev Glanert at the Semperoper Dresden and meet Chilean soprano Yaritza Veliz as she takes on Mimì at the Royal Opera House from 29 January.
In the world of recording, composer Jacques Cohen explores the perspective of Dickens’ Miss Havisham in his opera The Lady of Satis House, soon to be released on Meridian Records and tenor Daniel Behle speaks about singing Wagner and his new recording, Richard out on Prospero Records with the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra.
