Here we go again. October already, which means the exhibition season is about to get serious. Whatever your fancy, there should be one or more classic events in your diary for this month. And at Cage & Aviary Birds we’re looking forward to attending a number of key shows at the kind invitation of the organisers. Bring it all on! Events are going to be coming at everyone thick and
fast, and will create some diary bottlenecks along the way. In our pages (Club News especially), we’ll aim to capture the excitement of the next few months by including as many of your show reports and photos as soon as possible. Do keep those reports and other event info coming in – and, equally, please be patient as we cope with the rush. It can often take a few weeks to include a report. We always aim to publish items in the sequence that we receive them, though finding space for very long reports can take longer. It’s a big help if reports and pics can be sent by email (the address to use is: birds.general@kelsey.co.uk), but otherwise you can send material by post to the usual address on page 2. From all of us at the paper: whether you’re exhibiting, officiating, organising, doing the refreshments, simply admiring, or some combination of all the above – have a
successful and rewarding show season. And remember, do go the extra mile to explain what’s going on to first-time visitors and make them feel welcome. The show season is the fancy’s shop window as well as its competitive arena. ■ For some of our friends in Ireland, there will be a sadly
missed face this show season: that of Carmel Bolger, the legendary and much-loved secretary and treasurer of the Irish Fancy Canary Club, who recently passed away. (Obituary, page 25.) Our
sympathy goes to all the friends and family of this great lady.

en savoir plus lire moins
Cage & Aviary Birds is the world’s only weekly newspaper for birdkeepers. Written by bird experts for bird fans, it is packed with news, advice and comment from the avicultural scene. An essential resource for members of bird clubs and societies, it also offers an unrivalled marketplace for sellers and buyers of birds and all bird-related products, both in the British Isles and around the world.
As a weekly, it’s a uniquely comprehensive and topical source of news on all subjects that affect the birdkeeper: from legal changes and government consultations, through zoo and bird-park events, scientific research and business news, to the achievements of personalities in the hobby, as well as clubs and their members.
While it’s first and foremost a newspaper, each issue also offers a wealth of practical advice and tips from the top names in the bird world, plus opinion, controversy, species and hobbyist profiles, humour and nostalgia. Bargain-hunters eagerly await their copy to scan its paid and free adverts, and it is quite simply The Bible for show reports, club news and events.
Since 1902, Cage & Aviary Birds has consistently been the first-choice publication for keen birdkeepers, whether experienced or new to the hobby.
