What Motorhome magazine  |  Motorhomes for all budgets - June 2019
How much should you spend on your first motorhome or campervan? Well, of course, much depends on what you can afford, either from savings or on finance, but it’s certainly sensible to rein yourself in until you’re sure that this lifestyle is right for you.
Hiring first is a great idea and our news pages feature two new ventures in this growing sector. An Auto Campers Ford-based campervan in Scotland sounds like an idyllic prospect, but you can go for more adventurous options still, as our special feature on page 16 shows.
Having hired, you might know exactly what you want to buy, but if you’re still unsure on layout or other specifics, then buying used, rather than new, could save you money. A pre-owned model will have already done the bulk of its depreciation and a £30k budget will give you plenty of choice, from the smallest (VW campervans and diminutive Romahomes) right up to luxury A-classes. You can get a good idea of what’s out there by reading our seven-page feature, starting on page 63.
But it’s good to dream, too. Maybe, if you won the lottery or downsized the house, you’d go for Hymer’s stylish new MasterLine, or perhaps it would be the Swift Kon-tiki Dynamic occupying your (gravel) drive – with a vintage Bentley on a trailer behind, naturally.
