10 PRO TIPS
Fashion photographer Stephie Braun shares her top 10 tips
1
LOCATION IS KEY
Before you can start shooting, it’s important to know exactly where the shoot will take place. In fashion photography, a basic distinction is made between studio and on-location shoots. For on-location shoots, it helps if you know the area, as this makes it easier to find interesting backgrounds and scenes for your shoot. Working in a studio gives you greater control over the conditions, including weather and lighting.
2IMAGINE YOU WERE THE DESIGNER OF THE CLOTHES
On the day of the fashion shoot, it’s all about understanding the vision of the designer or designers. Know in advance where the featured brands come from, what countries and cultures they represent, and what aesthetic and textual traditions they bring with them. The more you know, the more you can respond to them, or break with them, in terms of the staging of individual pieces.
