VETTEL’S VICTORY
It was just like old times, Sebastian Vettel flirting with the Marina Bay walls en route to a stunning pole position and then controlling things from the front to take a 42nd victory, giving him sole tenure of third place in the F1 all-time winners list, with just Alain Prost and Michael Schumacher now ahead. The only visible difference from the Red Bull days was that Vettel was dressed in red. Former nemesis Daniel Ricciardo could have given him a harder time had it not been for the timing of two safety cars, the Red Bull better on its rubber than the Ferrari at the end of the stints. But Vettel was canny, looked after his tyres when he needed to and achieved his third win for Maranello. What happened to the Mercedes steamroller? It was a damned fine question which, leaving the circuit on Sunday night, nobody could properly answer. From crushing domination to a Lewis Hamilton qualifying time 1.4s off the pace at a place he normally excels, and a fourth place from an unimpeded Nico Rosberg, 25s behind. Come again?
