SAINTS THROW DOWN GAUNTLET
ST HELENS 28
CATALANS DRAGONS 8

ST HELENS once again came out on top against Catalans Dragons as a re-run of last season’s Grand Final kicked off the new Super League campaign in bruising fashion.
You should never get too carried away or concerned as early as round one. But you can’t help being impressed by Saints and you sense it could take something special to stop them making it four successive Super League titles.
As we’ve seen before under Kristian Woolf, Saints were sound defensively here at the Totally Wicked Stadium and did well to grind down their opposition slowly but surely, picking up a comfortable win over the only team who truly challenged them last term.
Each year, you feel it’ll be difficult for St Helens to replicate what they’ve done previously, but they continue to develop and 2022 looks set to be another impressive campaign for the men in the Red Vee.
The current champions have a steeliness about them, with the ability to hit another gear when they need to. The addition of Konrad Hurrell, Will Hopoate and Joey Lussick over the off-season all look to be extremely shrewd pieces of business.
