They say the best thing about memories is making them, but many of us might tack on the words “in miniature” to that well-worn phrase.
It’s so often memories that provide the inspiration for new projects. The wonderful room featured on our cover was built by Amy Yates after she remembered time spent in the garden with her mother, who had always wished for a she-shed. She built one her mum would have loved.
Angele Langdon put together her country cottage as a reminder of childhood days spent with her beloved grandmother.
“Designing and creating miniatures and doll’s houses give me the opportunity to create my own worlds,” Angele explained. “It’s freeing and I can let my imagination soar. I love how they take me into another world, another atmosphere, and the possibilities that life seems endless and wonderful.”
Morgen Bearse would certainly agree with that sentiment. Her projects are inspired by dreams of who she would like to be, from adventurer to entrepreneur. The wonderful painter’s studio we step inside this issue reflects her desire to be a full-time artist.
Chloe Fletcher is a tattoo artist by day but she’s certainly making her mark with the miniatures she creates at night. She’s spent the last 15 years working on her house and has mastered skills from woodworking to embroidery. The rooms are gorgeous — I know you’ll love them and they are filled with sentimental detail, such as her gran’s Delft brooch re-purposed in the kitchen. As I was saying: “The best thing about memories is making them… in miniature.”
Enjoy the issue.
