Dolls House World  |  Issue 349
Miniatures have provided a welcome escape for many of us in the lockdown years as we shut a twelfth scale door on the rest of the world.
Scenes inspired by isolation that we’ve seen have ranged from dreamy country cottages to luxury ocean-side villas. But rather than opt for such escapism Linda Guthertz decided to confront the pandemic head on. She put together a hospital room complete with a virus in needlepoint. You can see it on P26.
But if coastal dream homes are more your thing (and who could blame you?) there’s a warm welcome waiting in Cecilie Richardson’s Madera House. Cecilie captured the mood when she told us: “The most alluring part of miniatures to me is that you can create your own world where rearranging furniture is a breeze, and real-world problems don’t exist.”
I wouldn’t mind a couple of weeks in Madera House to get away from the cold grey days, but I’m gladdened at the prospect of spring days on the horizon. Nothing says spring like a vase of vibrant yellow daffodils and we’ll show you how to make some for your house this issue.
Patience is key with that project, but if you just want to get on and bash together a few quick minis we’ve got those too. New leather sofa anyone?
We meet some incredibly talented miniaturists, kick off a new series to those who need help with their wiring (who doesn’t?) and visit some wonderful houses and rooms. Shut that twelfth scale door.
