ELTON JOHN
THE LOCKDOWN SESSIONS
EMI
★★
In April 2020, Elton John stepped into his backyard and, as part of the One World:
Together At Home benefit, performed a garbled version of his 1983 hit I’m Still Standing that suggested he really ought to lie down. But, with his farewell tour on hold, he instead embarked on collaborations with a panoply of stars. Confusingly, one of these stars was already in heaven (so that’s some serious social distancing!): John’s miraculously resurrected Glen Campbell, who died in 2017, apparently piggybacking on his final recording, I’m Not Gonna Miss You, by ousting the country legend for a verse of a once poignant ballad.
