Fishing for ghosts and legends

Off the radar, fishing for the unknown, off the beaten track, the dark side of carp fishing all have a common theme, a theme which Big Carp readers will be all too familiar with, and a subject which still fires the imagination. The thought of an unknown, uncaught monster fires some people to put in extreme effort in adverse circumstances to achieve what is an almost impossible task. Now take a look at this month’s cover picture again; this is an example of the prize that’s up for the taking by those who take a step into the dark side.
The captor, Lee Brooks, is just one of an army of carpers who have rebelled against the crowded banks of local waters and fighting for swims on a Friday night after a hard week at work. Now these anglers sit alone, fishing for ghosts and legends, praying that tonight is the night that suspicion becomes reality. Lee has written a book, ‘The Darker Side of Carp Fishing’. It's a must-read for anyone who wants to see more of these fish because Lee found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!

Another angler who has an incredible story to tell is Sam Jeffreys. I first introduced you to Sam on the cover of issue 237 where he held a fantastic never before caught linear in front of an equally fantastic graffiti backdrop. He then wrote briefly in issue 239 on the Inner London Carp scene. Well he's back this month with an array of secret venues that will excite and hopefully entice you to seek the unknown yourself. But if you want to read the whole story from Sam, another must-read is the book ‘Under The Radar’. Both of these books and the new one from Derek Ritchie, ‘Get It On With The Don’, are available to order on the Big Carp website.
