The end of Savay is in sight?
Yes, a water very close to my heart could soon be buried under a high-speed rail link so it’s quicker to get to Birmingham by train! Savay lake, the birthplace of modern day carp angling and subject of John Harry’s best selling book, is under threat, but Big Carp readers could save it if they act quickly. The government plans to build the HS2 high-speed link to reduce the travel time from London to Birmingham by 30 minutes. The cost? Now hold on to your hat… £17 billion, and construction is due to start in 2015, unless we stop them. We can force a debate in Parliament if we can put together a petition of more than 100,000 signatures, not an impossible task if there really are 4,000,000 anglers in this country. I urge you please to go to www.gopetition.co.uk/petitions/stop-hs2.html and register your vote now. If you really feel passionate about this, there are other courses of action you could follow, namely to visit the HS2 Action Alliance website at www.hs2actionalliance.org.uk to see the full extent of the proposed venture, go to your local MP, send a copy to Phillip Hammond the Transport Secretary, or even write to Prince Charles, Clarence House, London SW1A 1BA and tell him why you feel so strongly about Savay. It’s up to you now. No one else can stop it except us carpers.
