Bass Player UK  |  June 2016
Dave Swift returns to our cover for the second time in three years as a result of a conversation we BGM staff had recently, deep in the bowels of the mag’s secret command bunker, with only a bottle of fret cleaner and a pan of boiling strings for company. Who’s the most visible British bassist ever, we asked ourselves? Well, presumably the guy who’s most often on TV, we reasoned. So which bass player is on the box just about every week, as well as on stage, and every New Year’s Eve as well? There’s only one contender, and we’re very lucky to have Swifty and his boss Jools Holland on our cover. Read and learn!
As well as this significant coup, we’ve also scored interviews in this issue with a ton of ace bassists from the prog, blues, punk and indie worlds. There’s plenty of essential bass info from the luthiers at Adamovic and Eve, plus reviews of killer gear from Fender (new Elite Jazz ahoy!), Marleaux, Spector, Barefaced and Nemphasis – covering as always a wide range of RRPs from £150 to £3199. And make sure you don’t spend all your time lazing around the garden in the late spring weather (you can’t say we’re not optimistic at BGM) when there’s a whole range of world-class tuition at your fingertips, from beginner via intermediate to advanced. Get to it, and we’ll catch you in June!
