Sometimes you meet a musician who makes you ask yourself why the hell you’re doing what you’re doing. Such a one is Tim Commerford of Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave and Future User, who we’ve finally bagged for our front cover after literally years of requests. Interviewing him, I was profoundly struck by the depth of his motivation, and not just when it comes to his incredibly evolved bass playing. He does nothing by halves, whether it’s studying and playing bass like an extreme blend of sport and philosophy, questing for the ultimate tone by building up a phenomenal arsenal of gear, or writing songs that aren’t so much politicised as explosive. Whatever you think of Commerford’s music, you’ll find something deep in the interview he gave us, and I for one am asking myself some big questions because of it.
Look elsewhere in this issue and, like Commerford, you’ll find evidence that we’re on a mission to serve the bass-playing community in everything we do. Want to spend the thick end of two grand on a state-of-the-art bass? Check out our Mayones review. Interested in an instrument that costs under £200, but which delivers stone-cold quality? Look no further than our assessment of the Revelation RBJ67 DLX. After a mid-market bass with serious fi repower? Likewise, head to our road-test of G&L’s new Tribute MJ-4. Together with high-spec Fender and Vanderkley gear, there’s no bass review section like it – even though we say so ourselves... Now dive in, and as I say every month at this time of year, make sure you diarise 12 and 13 March for the London Bass Guitar Show 2016. It’ll be the bass event of the year – even more than this issue’s front cover scoop. You mark our words.

Really interesting

Lots of interesting articles Revisado 25 abril 2022

Bass Player UK

I'm writing from Colombia. I really enjoy the magazine. Thanks guys. Revisado 20 diciembre 2020

Always a good read

Really entertaining view of guitar Revisado 11 julio 2019

Preferred the old reader

Although the new version has a few extra goodies like a side menu with all articles and a nicer layout, the zoom isn't as good as the old reader. With my phone horizontal the maximum zoom still has tiny lettering. It would be no good to someone who is short sighted. Revisado 24 noviembre 2012
