Toyota RAV4 1,015,700 cars sold
For the second year in a row, the Toyota RAV4 was the best-selling car in the world. It was also alone last year in topping the one million mark. That was an impressive feat, helped by the ongoing demand for mid-sized SUVs in many of the largest markets around the globe. Focusing the minds of Toyota executives, however, will be the 10% drop in sales of the RAV4 and its near-identical Wildlander sibling from the previous 12 months. Also keeping them on their toes is Tesla, whose electric Model Y experienced a huge jump in sales to claim third spot. Still, there’s comfort in the knowledge that the RAV4 remained the category leader in the US and several other key markets last year.
