GREATEST ROAD TESTSOFALL TIME

SUBARU IMPREZA WRX

TESTED 25.10.00 The affordable performance tag remained, but the ugly-duckling WRX was more us able more of the time than the pioneering Impreza Turbo it replaced.

New styling featured Audi Quattro-aping wheel arches, but the WRX looked like a cruelly distorted caricature of its predecessor. Peak power was the same as before, but a larger intercooler delivered peak torque a little sooner than previously. Torsional rigidity jumped a significant 185% and a higher roll centre and revised springs and dampers nodded towards refinement.
