George
A FICTIONAL STORY SHARED BY AN AUTISM MOM ABOUT GEORGE, A LITTLE BOY WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER.
By Alexandria SAPP
Itis the middle of the evening; shift change is coming. George was headed into work but before he went, he planned to stop and grab a bite to eat.
Driving downtown along the main road he saw the sun was beginning to set. The sky was a beautiful shade of mandarin orange. He loved how wonderful mother nature was, and how skilled she was at putting all the right colors together.
George decided he would stop and grab KFC before heading to work. Kentucky fried chicken with mashed potatoes, gravy, and corn, washed down with ice-cold sweet tea just sounded too good to pass up.
George put his leftovers in a bag and refilled his tea and headed on out to work. When he arrived at work, he found Natasha impatiently waiting for him. She was always in a hurry.
George worked as a gate guard at an old taxi barn. There were not any taxis at the barn right then, but they still needed to have someone guarding the gate.
George did not complain,he needed the money. He lived all by himself, and he was a lonely guy. He did not have any friends, and he kept to himself.
George was “on the spectrum”, and found it hard to communicate with others. He wished he could be friends with mother nature. He would often think of her.
